A Void Filled: I Finally Saw Billy Joel in Concert
I guess I don't even need to be writing this post with a title like that. On Thursday, 8/7, my mom and I saw Billy Joel at Madison Square Garden. He's been playing one show a month since the beginning of the year, and we bought our tickets back in the winter. I've always wanted to see Billy Joel, but since I've been of concert-going age, his shows have been few and far between. Tickets sell out as soon as they go on sale, gobbled up by scalpers who try to re-sell for $1500 per ticket.
Luckily, several shows went on sale at the same time, making it very easy to get decent seats. He played all of the best songs and sounded as good as a studio recording. At 65, it's obvious that he still very much enjoys what he does, and that makes the experience all the more incredible for us. And of course, being a Long Island native, it's extra-special to see him perform songs like "Downeaster Alexa" and especially "New York State of Mind." My mom saw him when she was in college at SUNY Oneonta at the start of his fame. I was raised on Billy Joel, so yeah I might have cried a bit.
Anyway, because I'm so nice, I've put together a Spotify playlist of his setlist for all you Billy Joel fans. Enjoy!
