MONTAUK SUMMERS

LIFE, LONG ISLAND, MUSICEmily Spada2 Comments

I have a soft spot for 90s music.  During the summers of 1996 and 1997, my parents and I spent a lot of time with another family out in Montauk on Long Island's south fork.  Many of the songs on this playlist remind me of those summers, and they bring back a large chunk of my childhood memories.  We would turn on a local radio station appropriately named Beach Radio as we drove to the actual beach packed with surfers and locals out for a special weekend.  I remember a woman who called herself Montauk Mary would drive an ice cream truck around the neighborhood and she'd always make a stop at Ditch Plains, our go-to beach.  All the children would run up to the truck, including my friend and I.  I'd usually get the same thing (not much has changed): a frozen chocolate malt.  Then we'd go back to the house, shower, and go out for dinner at Gosman's Dock for a seafood dinner.  We'd dine outside next to the inlet leading out to the Long Island Sound. These are songs that frequented the VH1 Top 10 and Top 20 countdowns, which I avidly watched as a child.   So now, I have a solid five-hour compilation of all my favorite 90s music that reminds of Montauk.   Feel free to subscribe!  And if you don't use Spotify, I highly recommend it.

What are some of your favorite childhood memories?  What music brings them back?  Leave some stories in the comments!  I'd love to read them :)
