PENN STATION'S SO GROSS: WHY I LOVE BROAD CITY
I've been reading about Broad City in my occasional glance through Rolling Stone, and I had heard a few of my coworkers talking about it, but then I saw Lady Gaga tweet about how much she loves the show. I was like, okay I gotta see this now.
Broad City is about two 20-something girls living in New York City. I've seen it compared to Girls, but it's really nothing at all like Girls. The only thing the two shows have in common is that fact this it's about, and made by 20-something girls. Girls is cerebral, a little pretentious, and dramatic. It has its moments of comic relief, but it's heavy. It's not an escape kind of show. I've seen Broad City described as "the comedy you wanted Girls to be." Broad City is bizarre, crude, campy, and downright hilarious. It achieves all of these things without trying too hard.
The clip below doesn't do the show justice at all, but it has particularly resonated with me because if you know me at all, you know that I am intimately acquainted with Penn Station. And it is indeed gross.
I highly suggest watching Broad City, but be warned...it's not for the faint of heart. If you've already seen it, let me know what you think in the comments!
